2 LATA WCZEŚNIEJ
Stan babci rzeczywiście się poprawił. Mama co chwilę pisała Elizie radosne wiadomości i przysłała nawet zdjęcie, zrobione ponoć specjalnie dla niej. Nie było wątpliwości, że różnica między tym, co Eliza widziała w szpitalu, a tym, co było na zdjęciu jest ogromna. Nie mogła uwierzyć, że dzieje się to naprawdę. Babcia co prawda nadal wyglądała na chorą, ale siedziała samodzielnie na łóżku i nawet się lekko uśmiechała. Wieczorem tego dnia Eliza jeszcze raz rozmawiała z mamą, która opowiedziała jej przebieg ostatnich godzin w najdrobniejszych szczegółach, ciesząc się z każdego kroku babci jak małe dziecko. Według jej relacji lekarze są zaskoczeni i przypisują tę poprawę działaniu leków, w co sami wątpili, a chora zachowuje się tak, jakby powoli budziła się ze snu. Z każdą godziną coraz bardziej orientowała się w zastanej rzeczywistości i wszystko sobie przypominała. Mało mówiła, bardziej słuchała i na potwierdzenie kiwała głową. Wyraźnie się cieszyła, że ma przy sobie córkę i posmutniała, gdy wizyta dobiegła końca. Miała zostać w szpitalu jeszcze przez kilka dni, ale jeżeli jej stan się utrzyma, zostanie wypisana do domu. Wtedy mama planowała zabrać ją do specjalisty z Niemiec, który przyjmował we Wrocławiu. Będzie gotowała jej pyszne posiłki, wychodziła z nią na spacery albo do ogrodu, a jak będzie znowu musiała wyjechać do pracy, to zajmie się nią ciotka… Eliza słuchała tych wszystkich nowości, ciesząc się i nie wierząc jednocześnie. Coraz więcej faktów przemawiało za rzeczywistą poprawą, wręcz cudem, ale nie potrafiła wymazać ze swojej pamięci obrazu babci, gdy przez chwilę widziała ją na szpitalnym łóżku. Dla niej już wtedy ta ukochana osoba praktycznie odeszła i teraz nagle jakby powstała z martwych. Było to dziwne uczucie, dotąd zupełnie jej nieznane. Nie wiedziała, jak się do tej nowej sytuacji ustosunkować. Oczywiście buzia sama jej się uśmiechała pod wpływem słów mamy, ale ulgi jeszcze nie czuła. Za szybko wszystko się działo, nie potrafiła przestawić się z dnia na dzień na nowe, mimo że pozytywne, okoliczności. Wiedziała, że dobra nowina dotrze do niej tak naprawdę dopiero za kilka dni i wtedy właśnie będzie potrafiła się nią naprawdę cieszyć. Teraz starała się okazać mamie swój entuzjazm, żeby nie dać jej odczuć swojego niedowierzania. Chciała dzielić z nią tę radość, bo wiedziała, że ten moment był bardzo przez nią wyczekany i gorąco wymodlony. Nie mogła jej tego odbierać. Wieczorem poszła do kościoła, pierwszy raz od dawna. Tak naprawdę chyba drugi lub trzeci raz podczas pobytu w Warszawie. Musiała uspokoić głowę, wyciszyć myśli, pojąć, co się dzieje, podziękować… Siedziała w ławce jeszcze długo po mszy, sama w środku prawie pustego kościoła. Dziwne, ale nadal ciężko było jej to wszystko pojąć. Wychodząc na zewnątrz, spojrzała jeszcze raz na zdjęcie babci. Już prawie przyzwyczaiła się do jej nieobecności, do bólu po stracie, do tęsknoty. A tu nagle uśmiecha się do niej i patrzy jakby prosto w jej oczy. „Co się dzieje, babciu? Co chcesz mi powiedzieć? Bo wiem, że chcesz”…
